the ultimate object of the human body when viewed through the eyes of modern medicine is homeostasis
The ability or tendency of an organism or cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes.
it is somewhat of a shame that we have taken the idea further in our lives, looking for some kind of state that is constantly adjusting to maintain a stillness a calm.
especially when one considers that the other option is a wonderful rollercoaster ride with all of the thrills mixed with fear, working together towards a heightened state of exhilaration.
being numb is overrated.

once you remove the corporeal elements from the idea of time travel it is easy to view a picture or a piece of writing as a device for time travel.
almost any work of art can transport you to another place or time, with some of the more fantastical works taking you places that may never existed outside of the artists imagination.
as consumers of art we all become a new incarnation of doctor who, and the works we use to travel through time our tardis.
just like the tardis a successful work of art is much bigger on the inside than you would know from look at the exterior.

as part of my teenage years i learnt every excuse in the world for blood shot eyes, the whites of my eyes go deep red at the slightest provocation.
the responsibility for being the person designated to run misdirection on the parents fell on whoever had that set of parents on lock.
- that little fulla looks like he would steal anything that wasn’t nailed down.
- is he the boy with the earring up his butt.
- he is so very polite and sweet natured.
in the third case it was my job to talk to the mother. hair wet from the hose outside, i would go straight into the kitchen while the other guys went to listen to music. my method was to ask intricate questions about what she did for a living, something to do with testing fried chicken temperatures at fast food restaurants.
the question of my wet hair and what the chlorine of the pool had done to my eyes never came up.

the machine did not beep as it should and i didn’t feel much like hanging around the self checkout aisle.
i was offered the option to skip bagging after scanning each of the first two probiotic chocolate bars and placing them on the scale set up to check the weight of each item to verify it against the stock records.
i scanned the third while the skip bagging pop up was active and selected finish and pay.
wait the total seems to be short by one bar?
at this point a conversation from yesterday ran through my head.
you look like you are going to steal stuff with your bag under your jacket like that
i bet that i look so dodgy that they wonuld’t bother to check me. too obvious.
i picked up the items and the receipt, carried them in one hand in the open and made sure to smile and say hello to the security guard on my way out.

freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose
perhaps it is the things that we hope to gain that we need to be free from, it is zen to think that it is desire that enslaves us.
desire for outcomes, desire for things, any train of thought that has you wishing for something will stop you from seeing exactly what it is that is right in front of you, from existing in the moment that you are in.
then again i have never really thought that muted orange is my colour.
